Waterfalls, off-roading through the San Juan Mountains, a lakeside picnic, and an intimate golden-hour ceremony surrounded by family. Skyler and Joe’s Telluride adventure elopement was an entire day of exploring some of Colorado’s most incredible landscapes while celebrating their marriage exactly how they wanted.
From getting ready at the Madeline Hotel to exchanging vows along Last Dollar Road and ending the evening beneath a pink Colorado sunset, their wedding day was filled with adventure, personal details, and time spent with the people closest to them. Their 12-hour elopement was documented on digital, 35mm film, and Super 8 video.
Getting Ready & First Look at the Madeline Hotel in Telluride
Skyler and Joe began their wedding day getting ready separately at the Madeline Hotel in Mountain Village, Telluride. Before heading out for a full day of exploring, they shared their first look at the hotel. It was the beginning of an adventure-filled day that would take us from mountain waterfalls to alpine lakes and scenic backroads throughout Telluride. With 12 hours of coverage, their timeline allowed us to document the entire experience rather than focusing solely on the ceremony.

Bridal Veil Falls, Off-Roading & Exploring the San Juan Mountains
After their first look, we headed out to explore some of Telluride’s most iconic scenery, starting with Bridal Veil Falls. Surrounded by the dramatic peaks of the San Juan Mountains, Bridal Veil Falls made an incredible backdrop for their adventure elopement portraits. From there, the day continued with off-roading, exploring scenic mountain roads, and spending time among the area’s beautiful aspen groves. Rather than choosing a single location for their wedding photos, Skyler and Joe incorporated multiple experiences into their day, making the adventure itself just as much a part of their wedding story as the ceremony. And with gorgeous September weather, we couldn’t have asked for a better day to explore Telluride.

An Alpine Lake Picnic at Alta Lakes
One of the highlights of their Telluride elopement was spending time at Alta Lakes, tucked into the mountains outside town. After a short hike, Skyler and Joe enjoyed a lakeside picnic complete with cake and champagne. It was a chance to slow down, enjoy the scenery, and spend some time together before their ceremony later that evening. An alpine lake, wedding cake, champagne, and an afternoon in the mountains. Proof that your wedding day can look however you want it to.

An Intimate Golden-Hour Ceremony on Last Dollar Road
As the afternoon turned into evening, we made our way toward Last Dollar Road for Skyler and Joe’s ceremony. Surrounded by their closest family members and the mountains of Telluride, they exchanged vows and rings during golden hour. Joe’s dad officiated, making the ceremony even more personal. And in one of the most memorable details of the day, their dog signed their marriage license, too! With the sun beginning to set over the mountains, we finished the evening with portraits beneath an incredible pink sky.

Dinner in Telluride & A Wedding Day Captured on Film
After a full day of exploring, Skyler and Joe headed into Telluride for dinner with family. Their wedding day was documented through a combination of digital photography, 35mm film, and nostalgic Super 8 video, preserving everything from the movement and scenery of their mountain adventures to the quieter moments throughout the day. It’s exactly why I love photographing all-day elopements. There’s room for the adventures, the spontaneous moments, the traditions you want to keep, and the experiences that make your wedding day different from anyone else’s.
