A sunset ceremony overlooking the Colorado mountains, their closest family by their side, and an intimate dinner prepared by a private chef. Tara and Braswell’s Sapphire Point Overlook elopement was the perfect example of how a smaller wedding day can still be filled with meaningful traditions, beautiful scenery, and plenty of celebration. From getting ready together in Silverthorne to exchanging vows at one of Colorado’s most scenic mountain overlooks, their day was documented on digital, 35mm film, and nostalgic Super 8 video.
Getting Ready & First Look in Silverthorne, Colorado
Tara and Braswell began their wedding day at an Airbnb in Silverthorne, Colorado, surrounded by the people closest to them. Before heading into the mountains for their ceremony, they shared a first look at the Airbnb and spent some time together taking portraits. Having a first look before the ceremony gave them an opportunity to enjoy a quieter moment together before celebrating with family at Sapphire Point.

A Sunset Wedding Ceremony at Sapphire Point Overlook
Located between Breckenridge and Dillon, Sapphire Point Overlook is a beautiful location for couples dreaming of an intimate Colorado mountain wedding. With panoramic views of Dillon Reservoir and the surrounding peaks, it’s easy to understand why this spot is so popular for elopements. Tara and Braswell chose a sunset ceremony surrounded by their closest family.
Colorado’s summer weather kept us guessing, with rain threatening to make an appearance throughout the evening. Thankfully, it held off, leaving us with a chilly but beautiful mountain evening. With their family gathered around them, Tara and Braswell exchanged personal vows and rings against the backdrop of the mountains. It was intimate, intentional, and exactly the kind of wedding day that proves you don’t need a huge guest list to have an unforgettable celebration.

Sapphire Point Elopement Portraits on Digital, 35mm Film & Super 8
Following their ceremony, we took advantage of the mountain scenery at Sapphire Point for portraits. Between their earlier portraits at the Airbnb and the incredible landscape surrounding the overlook, their gallery tells the story of both the quieter, personal moments and the experience of getting married in the Colorado mountains. Their wedding day was captured through a combination of digital photography, 35mm film, and Super 8 video. Each medium brings something different to the final story, from the candid moments captured digitally to the nostalgic texture and movement of film.

An Intimate Airbnb Wedding Reception with a Private Chef
After their ceremony and portraits at Sapphire Point, Tara and Braswell returned to their Silverthorne Airbnb to continue celebrating with family. Instead of a traditional wedding reception, they planned an intimate evening complete with a private chef, champagne, heartfelt toasts, and cake cutting. They also took care of signing their marriage license, making everything official. It was the perfect way to bring their wedding day full circle: a mountain ceremony with their favorite people, followed by a relaxed celebration where they could enjoy being newly married. And that’s one of the best parts about planning an elopement. You can keep the traditions you love, leave behind the ones you don’t, and create a wedding experience that actually feels like you.

Planning Your Own Sapphire Point Overlook Elopement
If you’re considering a Sapphire Point elopement in Colorado, this scenic overlook is an incredible option for couples who want mountain views without a strenuous hike. Its proximity to Breckenridge, Dillon, and Silverthorne also makes it easy to pair a mountain ceremony with an intimate Airbnb reception, private chef dinner, or other personalized celebration. As a Colorado elopement photographer, I help couples create and document wedding experiences that reflect their story, whether that means an adventurous mountain ceremony, a celebration with their closest family, or a little bit of both.
