An intimate ceremony surrounded by family, an entire day exploring the Colorado mountains, a surprise encounter with a herd of elk, and a private chef dinner back at their Airbnb. Kris and Sam’s Rocky Mountain National Park elopement was filled with everything that makes an all-day elopement experience so special.
From their first look in Estes Park to exchanging vows at Upper Beaver Meadows and ending the evening in pajamas with their favorite people, their wedding day was a beautiful balance of adventure, family, and intentionally slowing down. Their entire day was documented on digital and 35mm film.
Getting Ready & First Look in Estes Park, Colorado
Kris and Sam began their wedding day getting ready separately at two Airbnbs in Estes Park, just outside Rocky Mountain National Park. Before heading into the mountains, they shared their first look at one of the Airbnbs. Having that moment together before their ceremony allowed them to spend some time just enjoying each other’s company before the rest of the day’s celebrations. With all-day photography coverage, there was plenty of room in their timeline for the moments in between, rather than rushing from one event to the next.

An Intimate Upper Beaver Meadows Elopement Ceremony
For their ceremony, Kris and Sam chose Upper Beaver Meadows, one of Rocky Mountain National Park’s designated wedding ceremony locations. Surrounded by sweeping mountain views and their closest family, they exchanged vows in a ceremony filled with personal touches. Sam’s dad officiated, while her niece served as flower girl and her nephew took on the role of ring bearer. Incorporating their family into the ceremony made the experience even more meaningful while keeping the celebration intimate. It was the perfect reminder that eloping doesn’t necessarily mean getting married alone. Sometimes it means choosing a smaller celebration where every person present plays an important role.

Exploring Rocky Mountain National Park for Adventure Elopement Portraits
After their ceremony, we spent time exploring several locations throughout Rocky Mountain National Park for portraits. From the open meadows at Upper Beaver Meadows to the mountain scenery of Moraine Park, 3M Curve, and the beginning of Trail Ridge Road, each location offered a completely different backdrop. One of the best parts of planning an all-day Colorado elopement is having the flexibility to explore without feeling like every moment needs to fit into a traditional wedding timeline.
And Rocky Mountain National Park definitely gave us a memorable ending to our adventure. As we were leaving the park, we came across a large herd of elk and were able to capture photos with the wildlife in the landscape. A little rain also made an appearance toward the end of the day, adding to the ever-changing Colorado mountain weather. Their portraits were captured on both digital and 35mm film, documenting the scenery, movement, and candid moments throughout their adventure.

A Private Chef Elopement Dinner & Slow Evening with Family
After spending the day exploring the mountains, Kris and Sam returned to their Airbnb for an intimate evening with family. Rather than planning a traditional reception, they celebrated with a private chef dinner, heartfelt toasts, and cake cutting. At some point, the wedding attire came off and the pajamas came on, which might be one of my favorite ways to end a wedding day. No packed reception timeline or pressure to keep the party going. Just good food, their closest people, and a slow evening spent celebrating being married.
