Zion National Park is the perfect destination for your intimate elopement; full of natural beauty and dramatic scenery that makes for unforgettable wedding photos. To help make planning your dream Zion elopement easy, I have created the ultimate guide to eloping in Zion National Park. If you plan to elope somewhere aside from this gorgeous park, I have a blog post just for you!
Choosing the Right Time of Year & Location to Elope in Zion
When planning your dream Zion elopement, one of the first questions you should ask yourselves is “When do we want to elope?” Zion National Park has unique seasons that offer different advantages and challenges. Here’s a breakdown of what to expect during each season:
ZION SEASONAL ELOPEMENT INFORMATION
Spring (March-May)
Spring is a beautiful time to elope in Zion National Park. The temperatures are mild, the flowers are blooming, and the waterfalls are flowing. However, it can still be chilly in the mornings and evenings, and there may be occasional rain showers. This season is perfect for couples who want a vibrant and lush backdrop for their elopement photos.
Summer (June-August)
Summer in Zion can be quite hot, with temperatures often exceeding 100°F. However, the longer days provide ample time for exploration and photography. Early mornings or late evenings are the best times to elope to avoid the heat and crowds. Summer is also the peak tourist season, so more popular spots may be busier.
Fall (September-November)
Fall is one of the most popular times to elope in Zion National Park. The temperatures are cooler, the leaves are changing colors, and the crowds start to thin out. This season offers a stunning, colorful backdrop for your elopement photos. However, it can be unpredictable with occasional rain and cooler temperatures as you approach November.
Winter (December-February)
Winter elopements in Zion are for the adventurous couple who doesn’t mind the cold. The park is much quieter, and the landscape can be breathtaking with snow-covered cliffs and serene, peaceful surroundings. Just be prepared for cold temperatures and potential snow or ice on the trails.
Where to Elope in Zion National Park (MAPPED BELOW)
Choosing the perfect location within Zion National Park for your elopement is crucial. The location sets the tone and atmosphere for your special day. Below are some of my favorite spots within the park:
Zion Canyon Overlook
One of the most iconic and easily accessible spots in Zion, the Canyon Overlook offers stunning views of the park’s dramatic landscape. It’s a short hike to the viewpoint and is perfect for sunrise or sunset elopements.
The Watchman Trail
This trail offers a relatively easy hike with breathtaking views of the Watchman peak and the Virgin River. It’s an excellent spot for couples looking for a blend of scenic beauty and tranquility.
Court of the Patriarchs
This location provides a majestic backdrop with towering sandstone peaks named after biblical figures. It’s easily accessible and offers a grand and awe-inspiring setting for your elopement ceremony.
Emerald Pools
The Emerald Pools are a series of stunning pools and waterfalls that offer a magical and serene atmosphere. The trails to the pools are moderate, and the location is perfect for couples looking for a blend of water features and lush greenery.
Angels Landing
For the truly adventurous couple, Angels Landing offers one of the most iconic views in Zion. The hike is challenging and not for the faint of heart, but the reward is an unparalleled view of the entire park.
No matter where you choose to elope, the day is about celebrating your love for one another. Browse around the attached map to discover the best places to elope in Zion.
Should We Include Guests in Our Elopement?
First, remember that your decision is yours (and your partner’s) to make, and whatever you decide should be a choice you make together without any coercion or added stress from others. There are numerous factors that make the decision to elope solo or with others a tough one. Weddings can be expensive, and if you’d prefer to spend your budget on something special for just yourselves, you are valid. Even planning a small gathering of 20 people requires permitting and can add up quickly.
If you and your partner are ready, I recommend an intimate ceremony for just the two of you. This way, the day is completely yours to do whatever, wherever you want. But, if you can’t imagine getting married without family or friends but don’t want a big wedding, consider a small ceremony of no more than 20 people. Book your reception later in the day to allow time for photos after the ceremony. Deciding how to elope is a huge decision, as it marks the start of your lives together.
If you have questions, comments, concerns, what-ifs, what-abouts, etc.; please do not hesitate to contact me, and I am happy to walk you through all of it.
Choosing the Best Photography Package for Your Elopement
Eloping should not break the bank, and it’s important for you to select the package that makes the most sense financially. If you’re eloping in a courthouse and want a simple, quick session, then 1 hour is perfect, but if you want multiple looks at multiple locations, 3+ hours is definitely needed. If you plan to host a small ceremony with guests, I recommend 4+ hours to ensure there is plenty of time for ceremony, family, and couples photos. No matter what kind of elopement you choose, we will curate a package that is just right for you.
Choosing the Rest of Your Vendors
If you decide to elope with a small ceremony, book a venue, or even want to go to the courthouse, you may need to do some planning. It’s important to book vendors as early as possible to lock in your date. This goes for a photographer, officiant, courthouse appointment, venue, reception, florals, décor, permits, etc., whatever applies to your big day. If you need recommendations, I am always happy to help you find the perfect vendors for your big day.
Choosing Where to Get Married “Legally”
Getting married is not the most complicated process, but it is a process nonetheless. If you want to be legally married before the elopement session, schedule your appointment at the clerk’s office beforehand. If you plan to get married on the day of and want pictures after, it is completely possible. You’ll want to schedule an appointment at the courthouse in whatever city/county you plan to elope in. In order to get legally married in Utah, you need a valid photo ID and social security card. Make sure to check specific requirements for Zion National Park and the surrounding areas. After you get your marriage license, you have a set period to say “I Do.”

Packing and Preparing to Elope in Zion National Park
Before packing for your Zion Elopement, think about the vibe you’re going for and the location you chose. Is it adventurous, boho, modern, casual, etc.? Once you know what kind of vibe you’re going for, you can narrow down on a dress/outfits. There is no rule that says you have to wear white to elope; wear whatever makes YOU feel the best. After you pack your dress, I would next suggest: comfortable hiking shoes, weather-appropriate clothing, sunscreen, bug spray, snacks, and plenty of water.
On your elopement day, it is so important to eat a well-balanced meal and drink plenty of water. It can get hot in Zion, and it’s crucial you stay hydrated on your big day. Depending on the location, I will drop a pin exactly where parking is or send directions to you. Remember, it’s totally okay to be nervous; not everyone has their picture taken every day! I strive for the process to be a seamless and fun experience from start to finish. My goal as your Zion elopement photographer is to deliver a lasting collection of images that feel authentic, real, and 100% you. We will laugh, have fun, and spend the day celebrating and capturing your love story.
